11th Optical Communication Carnival Badminton Tournament: Industry Connection

11th Optical Communication Carnival Badminton Tournament: Industry Connection Through Sport

On September 10, 2024, the 11th Optical Communication Carnival Badminton Tournament opened at the Shenzhen Longhua Jianshang Sports Complex Hall. The event brought together participants from across the optical-communication community for friendly competition and informal exchange. Topstar supported the tournament, and General Manager Lewis Wei joined the Topstar badminton team on the court. For the company, the occasion was an opportunity to encourage a healthy team culture while strengthening the professional relationships that support collaboration across the industry.

Technical industries are often discussed through products, specifications, and project schedules. Those topics are essential, but the relationships behind them also matter. Events that bring colleagues and peer companies together in a relaxed setting can make future communication more open and effective. They create opportunities to learn how different people approach a common challenge, to exchange perspectives without the pressure of an immediate transaction, and to build mutual respect that carries into later work.

Competition and sportsmanship

Badminton requires focus, discipline, quick decisions, and communication. In doubles play, partners must read the situation, trust one another, and adjust their position in a fast-moving environment. These qualities are relevant beyond the court. Technical B2B service also involves shared responsibility. A customer inquiry may require sales, technical support, operations, logistics, and management to contribute different information before a clear answer can be given.

Sportsmanship is equally important. Participants compete to perform well, but they also respect rules, opponents, organizers, and teammates. In professional work, the equivalent is integrity: represent information accurately, acknowledge what still needs to be verified, keep commitments realistic, and take responsibility for follow-up. A strong result is more meaningful when it is achieved through fair and respectful behavior.

Industry exchange beyond the match

The Optical Communication Carnival served as a setting for conversation among industry colleagues. The fiber-optic and data-center ecosystem includes manufacturers, distributors, integrators, service providers, engineers, and end users. Each role sees a project from a different angle. An engineer may focus on link performance and compatibility; a purchaser may focus on documentation, continuity, and timing; an operations team may focus on installation, labeling, monitoring, and maintenance. Informal discussion helps people recognize these different priorities and can lead to clearer communication when a future project begins.

For Topstar, listening is an important part of participation. Customer and partner feedback often reveals where more detailed information is needed. A request may appear simple until the team learns the target switch or server model, the physical fiber path, an existing part number, a delivery constraint, or an approval process. Listening carefully allows the team to identify those details earlier and organize a more useful response.

Team culture supports customer service

Team activities have value when they strengthen everyday habits. A colleague who learns to support a teammate, communicate clearly, and remain calm under pressure is better able to contribute to a customer project. At Topstar, we aim to carry this mindset into our work with optical, networking, server, storage, and AI-infrastructure requirements. The team works to understand the customer’s objective, verify relevant conditions, explain what is confirmed, and coordinate the next action across the appropriate functions.

For example, an optical connection should be considered from both endpoints and the physical path. The required speed, interface form factor, fiber medium, connector type, reach, polarity, and supported compatibility conditions may all matter. A response that skips these questions can create avoidable uncertainty. A collaboration-first team knows when to ask for more information and when to involve technical resources before recommending an option.

Health, resilience, and continued learning

Busy work periods require resilience. Encouraging colleagues to take part in healthy activities supports both individual wellbeing and a more sustainable working rhythm. A team that has opportunities to connect outside normal tasks can return with stronger communication and renewed energy. This is not a substitute for good processes, but it can support the people who carry those processes out every day.

The tournament also reinforces the value of continuous learning. In sport, players review technique, strategy, and teamwork. In business, teams should review customer questions, project outcomes, documentation, and handoffs. The goal is not to repeat the same approach because it worked once. It is to learn what can be improved and apply that insight to the next situation.

Thank you to the organizers and participants

Topstar thanks the organizers, athletes, supporters, and peer companies who contributed to the 11th Optical Communication Carnival Badminton Tournament. We appreciate the opportunity to take part in an event that combined friendly competition with industry connection. The enthusiasm and cooperation shown by participants reflected the positive spirit that helps a professional community grow.

We look forward to continuing to support constructive industry exchange and healthy team activities. For customers and partners, the same commitment to cooperation guides our daily work: share the relevant project information, and our team will organize the appropriate technical and service checks to provide a clearer next step. Strong relationships are built through consistent, respectful actions—on the court and in every customer interaction.
